Best Asian Companies To Own For 2015

Chrysler and General Motors recorded April sales increases of 14% and 7%, respectively, while Ford sales fell 1%.

Total industry new-vehicle sales, combining the Detroit results with tallies from European and Asian brands, were 1.39 million, up 8.1% from April a year earlier.

The annual sales pace translated to 16.04 million, according to Autodata, up from a pace of 15.19 million a year ago.

Automakers viewed April as a key test of consumer confidence after sluggish sales during the brutal wintry months to start the year, which delayed many consumers' trips to the showroom.

For GM, an 8% increase in retail sales may calm fears that a highly publicized ignition switch recall could hurt sales. GM CEO Mary Barra said last week that the situation has had "no meaningful impact" on sales so far. The April numbers bear that out.

Additionally, I will evaluate which institutional investors bought the stock in the recent quarters (institutional backup can tell a lot about a stock), and the initiatives that the company is putting in motion in order to ameliorate its sales and margins.

    Earnings

The first step is analyzing Symantec Corp earnings growth. I am looking for companies that are able to expand both their quarterly and annual earnings by more than 15% a year. Last quarter the company generated 13% quarterly EPS growth when compared to the same quarter last year. Thus, I am not encouraged by SYMC numbers. Past growth winners (Apple, Baidu, etc.) generated consistent quarterly EPS growth above 15% and I am certainly looking for that level before investing.

In addition, SYMC generated three-year average annual EPS growth of 10%. This is an important metric to follow in growth stocks because it highlights how well the stock grew in the past years. I like to invest in companies that are growing consistently.

    Revenue

Let's take a look at SYMC麓s revenue growth. This is a key metric that needs to be analyzed before investing in a company, as it is one of the scarce figures that cannot be modified through accounting tricks and similar dodges.

The company reported a 5% quarterly revenue drop year over year. On the contrary, I look for companies that generate more than 15% in quarterly growth.

When betting on a company, an investor wants to see sales grow or improve over time nd not just in the last reported quarter. Looking at the company financials in comparison to previous years will give participants a much better idea of how well a company is doing. Symantec Corp generated a three-year average annual sales growth rate of 4%.

One under-$10 health care player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade is Symmetry Medical (SMA), which designs, develops and produces medical device solutions and surgical instruments. This stock has been hit by the sellers in 2013, with shares off by 22%.

If you take a look at the chart for Symmetry Medical, you'll notice that this stock has been finding some buying interest over the last two months, each time it's pulled back to around $7.75 a share. That action has started to form a bottoming pattern for SMA near that $7.75 level. Shares of SMA are now starting to challenge its 50-day moving average of $8.20 a share. That move is quickly pushing shares of SMA within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SMA if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $8.29 to $8.60 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 129,189 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then SMA will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $9.40 to its 200-day moving average of $9.59 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then put $10.50 to $11 into range for shares of SMA.

Traders can look to buy SMA off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support at $7.75 a share, or at $7.44 a share. One can also buy SMA off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
