Hot Undervalued Companies For 2015: Caterpillar Inc.(CAT)

Caterpillar Inc. manufactures and sells construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives worldwide. It operates through three lines of businesses: Machinery, Engines, and Financial Products. The Machinery business offers construction, mining, and forestry machinery, including track and wheel tractors, track and wheel loaders, pipelayers, motor graders, wheel tractor-scrapers, track and wheel excavators, backhoe loaders, log skidders, log loaders, off-highway trucks, articulated trucks, paving products, skid steer loaders, underground mining equipment, tunnel boring equipment, and related parts. It also manufactures diesel-electric locomotives; and manufactures and services rail-related products and logistics services for other companies. The Engines business provides diesel, heavy fuel, and natural gas reciprocating engines for Caterpillar machinery, electric power generation systems, marine, petrol eum, construction, industrial, agricultural, and other applications. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Anders Bylund]

The second and third names on this unfortunate list are Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC  ) , with just over and under 4.7% of their float sold short, respectively.

  • [By Arjun Sreekumar]

General Electric (NYSE: GE  ) and Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) , the biggest manufacturers of locomotives in the world, are all too eager to take part. If the transition gains momentum, it could mark the most radical change in the industry since the 1950s, when diesel replaced steam as the fuel of choice.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Another Dow stock sinking is Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) , also down 1.9% after it was put on notice by short-seller James S. Chanos, who said he was shorting the stock because Caterpillar faces a lot of headwinds relating to the commodities market, where miners generate demand. If commodities demand drops in China, it will hit Caterpillar's sales and profit. The stock still pays a considerable 2.8% dividend yield and trades at just 12 times trailing earnings, but demand can swing wildly, and eventually China will have to stop its stimulus-fueled growth, which could have a big impact on demand. A short-seller's call isn't reason to dump the stock, but it may be a reminder to look at the macro picture and re-evaluate Caterpillar's prospects.

Stay away from utilities and energy stocks, as they are likely to be the laggards over the next year.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Another reason that shale gas development has not as quickly developed is a lack of clear patent protection laws, especiallyin China. While both Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB  ) and Haliburton (NYSE: HAL  ) have expressed an interest in developing Chinese shale gas, a lack of intellectual-property protection has them hesitant to going all in. Rather, both companies have taken minority interests in smaller,Chinese-based companies and plan to take orders of drilling fluids and equipment. These kinds of moves are not necessary in the U.S. and have allowed companies to protect and profit from their expertise.

Ultratech isn't the only game in town, though, and there are multiple technologies and process steps that are going to play significant roles in the production of FinFETs and 3D circuits. With that, I would take a look at Mattson Technologies (MTSN), as this company has already accomplished the not-so-easy task of gaining meaningful share in the dry strip, rapid thermal processing (RTP), and etch markets despite competing with giants like Lam Research (LRCX), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Tokyo Electron (TOELY.PK).

Best China Stocks To Buy For 2015

Fertilizer stocks were tumbling hard early Tuesday, on worries that moves by the world largest potash producer will push down prices.

Big potash producers were taking the brunt of the hit. Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (POT) was falling 23% after the open, and Mosaic (MOS) tumbled 24%. Other fertilizer and agriculture companies were also taking a hit, with Agrium (AGU) down more than 7% and Monsanto (MON) slipping more than 3%.

The problem is OAO Uralkali, the world largest potash producer. Chief Executive Officer Vladislav Baumgertner said today that it was breaking up a sales venture with Belarus that had controlled 43% of global exports. That cartel was one of the world largest, commanding around 70% of the global market.

Uralkali is looking to grab market share in the new trading landscape it has created with the break, and said it will increase to consumers including China, which imports about a fifth of global supplies, after switching to its own unit, Uralkali Trading, the a joint venture.

Baidu, Inc. was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Beijing, the People?s Republic of China.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Kevin Chen]

Social may soon become Baidu's (NASDAQ: BIDU  ) Achilles' heel in search, mobile, and more.

For some time, China's largest search engine could always count on its partnership with SINA (NASDAQ: SINA  ) Weibo, a Twitter-like service, to infuse Baidu products with social information. But now that China's biggest e-commerce retailer Alibaba has bought shares in Weibo, Baidu investors should be scared. Not only may Baidu lose its social edge, but the Alibaba-SINA deal could also spell trouble for Baidu's future.

  • [By Robert Martin]

Top holdings include internet companies Qihoo 360 Technology (QIHU) and Baidu (BIDU) — both about 8% — as well as Chinese media giant Sina (SINA) at 6.6%. More than half of PGJ is dedicated to tech stocks, with another 20% allocated in consumer discretionary. This makes a good play for China burgeoning tech industry, with a side dish of consumer stocks for the country enormous population.

  • [By Vincent Ho]

Baidu (BIDU) has made impressive gains in the last 3 months. There are some very insightful articles on SA that argue for a bullish stance based on valuations. There are other articles on SA which cover the recent acquisition of 91 Wireless. This article is different in that it offers an overview of Baidu's business model in relation to its dependence on online advertising. Understanding the direction of the internet is important to predict future revenue growth. Significantly new competition from Qihoo (QIHU) is also something Baidu has never experienced before. There are doubts if Baidu has enough tools to clean up its act and regain market share.

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

Then there's Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU  ) . China's largest online search engine had a recent record 12.8 million shares sold short at the end of March. That number dipped to 12 million on April 15, but it's naturally too early to claim that the bears are moving on at Baidu.

Treasurer Joe Hockey said Yanzhou Coal Mining Co. (YZC) no longer needed to meet a Dec. 31 deadline for reducing its stake in Yancoal Australia Ltd. (YAL.AU) below 70%, citing the downturn in global coal prices. Yanzhou, which owns 78% of Yancoal Australia, had made the commitment in 2009 to complete its 3.5 billion Australian dollar (US$3.2 billion) takeover of Felix Resources Ltd.

Yanzhou Coal Mining (YZC) engages in the underground coal mining, as well as preparation, processing, sale and railway transportation of coal. This stock closed up 7.6% to $7.31 in Thursday's trading session.

    Thursday's Range: $7.14-$7.31

    52-Week Range: $6.68-$18.57

    Thursday's Volume: 391,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 370,383

From a technical perspective, YZC bounced sharply higher here right off some near-term support at $6.77 with above-average volume. This stock has been downtrending badly for the last six months, with shares plunging from its high of over $14 to its recent low of $6.68. During that move, shares of YZC have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of YZC have recently formed a double bottom chart pattern at $6.68 to $6.77. This stock now looks ready to reverse that downtrend and possibly trigger a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if YZC manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.76 to $8 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in YZC as long as it's trending above its recent low of $6.77 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 370,383 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then YZC will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $9 to $10. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give YZC a chance to tag its next major overhead resistance levels at $10.67 to $11.11.

To be fair, these revenues come from their stake in game company Changyou (NASDAQ: CYOU  ) . Because Sohu owns a majority stake in Changyou, Sohu must consolidate all financials into its statements -- even as Changyou is independently listed on stock exchanges. Whatever the case, Sohu actually created Changyou -- it started as a business unit in 2003, then was spun out in 2007. In any case, Sohu should do some serious soul-searching.

Quarterly results are a real crap-shoot. With that in mind, let's examine the good and bad points at Eldorado Gold Corp. Ltd. (EGO).

Eldorado has mines in Greece, Turkey, Brazil, China, and Romania. However, as of year-end 2012, 53% of production came from Turkey and 45% from China.

Gold and gold miners are generally thought to do best when the market is worried about inflation. Yet the recent rally in gold miners like Goldcorp (GG), Eldorado Gold (EGO) and Randgold Resources (GOLD) has come despite an increase in worries about deflation.

The big news for Madison Square Garden has been the success of its key sports franchises. The New York Knicks basketball team made the playoffs and earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Even more importantly, the long-delayed National Hockey League season finally got going in January, helping resurrect what many had feared would be a lost season, sending shares of MSG, as well as Canadian venue/team-owners Rogers Communications (NYSE: RCI  ) and BCE (NYSE: BCE  ) , higher. As it turned out, MSG's New York Rangers made the playoffs and will go up against the Washington Capitals in the first round. Playoffs are an especially lucrative time for sports viewership, and usually translate into extra profits for the company's broadcast businesses.

Technology is disruptive. It changes everyone daily life. But it also may cause unpleasant financial consequences to investors. Technology brings dramatic economic growth which is, unfortunately, less predictable. In Buffett own words when asked in the interview if he would buy other tech companies: look at everything but most things I decide I can't figure out their future. For some examples, just look at Research In Motion (RIMM) versus Apple (AAPL), Yahoo! (YHOO) versus Google (GOOG), and Kodak versus all the other digital camera makers. The last one is especially ironic because it is Kodak that invented the digital camera in the first place.

  • [By Geoff Gannon] east loved of these is of course RIMM. Einhorn already has a paper loss in that stock. His average cost was $18.88 a share. Today price is $15.05. That a 20% loss. And Einhorn only started buying Research In Motion in the last three months of 2011.

But Research In Motion is a pretty small position 0.81% of Einhorn total portfolio compared to one of his other new buys: Dell.

Einhorn already owns $255 million of Dell shares. He paid $15.36 a share. The stock is now at $18.08 a share. That an 18% gain. And Dell will mean a lot more to Einhorn performance than Research In Motion. Dell is a 3.9% position for Einhorn. That almost five times the size of his investment in Research In Motion. So for now at least Einhorn paper gain on Dell will more than make up for his paper loss on RIMM.

    Finally, there Yahoo.

This is a quasi-new buy for Einhorn. He actually bought a 8.5 million shares of Yahoo in the first quarter of 2011 only to sell them for a 2% loss the next quarter. Einhorn was out of Yahoo completely for the third quarter of 2011. And now he back in with about 3 million shares bought in the fourth quarter of 2011. Einhorn average price is a wee bit lower this time. His original purchase price back in first quarter 2011 was $16.64 a share. He got his Yahoo shares about 6% cheaper this time around. Einhorn paid $15.66 a share for his 3 million shares of Yahoo. The stock is down a smidge from there. Around $15.25 a share.

There have been reports of a breakdown in Yahoo buyout talks. But that par for the course in a situation like this where a company is shopping itself around. There will be lots of people leaking stories for lots of different reasons. Don believe everything you read about Yahoo. And certainly don try to trade on everything you read about Yahoo.

    Why is Einhorn buying Yahoo?

Probably on a sum of the parts basis. As everybod

China is set to ease the one child policy, something that could benefit Chinese stocks in general but be especially beneficial to insurance stocks like China Life Insurance Company Ltd (NYSE: LFC) and CNinsure Inc (NASDAQ: CISG) plus health care stocks like Mindray Medical International Ltd(NYSE: MR) and Concord Medical Services Hldg Ltd (NYSE: CCM). First, let be clear that China is NOT abolishing the one child policy as the changes will merelyallow married couples to have two children if one spouse is an only child plus it will be up to China 34 province-level administrations to revisetheir laws and put the new policy into effect. Moreover, China family-planning bureaucracy employs more than 500,000 full-time workers and six million part-time workers all the way down to the village level tocollect billions of dollars in fines and these bureaucrats have fought for years against policy changesmeaning they could throw up roadblocks if not placated. Top 10 Medical Stocks To Watch For 2015

The Motley Fool's Market Checkup drills down on the hottest headlines and biggest market movers in the health-care sector. This episode -- featuring a special guest appearance by Dan Caplinger, The Motley Fool's director of investment planning -- highlights a biotech stock that popped 40%, gives a full examination of the Affordable Care Act's debut week, and finishes off with two stocks poised to profit from Obamacare.

In the following video, Fool health-care bureau chief Max Macaluso asks Dan for his pick on a stock that could benefit from Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Dan singles out Medtronic (NYSE: MDT  ) as a potential winner, noting that with the current government shutdown impasse in Washington, lawmakers are looking to use Obamacare as leverage to make political gains. One possible issue that could come into play in the shutdown debate is the medical-device excise tax that Obamacare imposed on Medtronic and its peers, and opponents of the tax could seek to win its repeal in exchange for support of a spending measure and debt ceiling increase, potentially returning lost profits back to Medtronic. Moreover, the recent buyout offer that Stryker (NYSE: SYK  ) made to acquire MAKO Surgical (NASDAQ: MAKO  ) has turned attention to the medical-device sector once again. Dan and Max discuss the likelihood of a congressional deal to eliminate the tax, and Fool health-care analyst David Williamson also weighs in with his assessment of whether enough bipartisan support exists for the provision to get repealed.

A couple of other key pharmaceutical stocks released their third quarter numbers early on in the current earnings season:Baxter International(BAX), andJohnson & Johnson(JNJ). While both are waist-deep in non-pharma businesses, they’re still worth a close look through the same pharmaceutical lens.

But three stocks in the Dow managed to post gains of more than 1% on the day. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ  ) was the big winner, rising 1.7% after a weekend meeting of the American Diabetes Association featured competing research from J&J and Medtronic toward potentially creating an artificial pancreas. Medtronic hopes to get FDA approval for its MiniMed 530 G pump in the near future, while J&J's device is also geared toward monitoring insulin levels during overnight hours, when patients are most vulnerable to blood-sugar swings. Although relatively few diabetes suffers have the Type 1 version of the disease, building a research base will be lucrative for J&J in its attempts to make further advances.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

A biopharmaceutical stock that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Alcobra (ADHD), which is engaged in the development and commercialization of its proprietary drug, MG01CI, to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up huge by 126%.

If you take a look at the chart for Alcobra, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways and consolidating over the last month and change, with shares moving between $14.78 on the downside and $18.75 on the upside. Shares of ADHD have now started to uptrend a bit over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $15.05 to its recent high of $18.45 share. That move has started to push shares of ADHD within range of triggering a big breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ADHD if it manages to break out above its 50-day moving average of $17.79 a share, and then once it takes out some more key overhead resistance levels at $18.45 to $18.75 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 74,869 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ADHD will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $22 to $24 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give ADHD a chance to re-test or possibly take out its all-time high at $26.96 a share.

Traders can look to buy ADHD off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support levels at $16.17 to $15.05 a share, or around $14.78 a share. One could also buy ADHD off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Sales of its drug-eluting stents and related products business were down 15% in the U.S. as the company not only competes against Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX  ) and Medtronic (NYSE: MDT  ) , but also against other options that patients have to treat coronary arteries, including doing nothing. Sales of drug-eluting stents at all three medical-device makers have dropped recently as doctors perform fewer procedures. The winner appears to be Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ  ) , whichexited the drug-eluting stent business altogether two years ago.

(CBST). For investors looking for a higher ROE, Allergan Inc. (AGN) and Actelion Ltd. (ATLN.VX) are good options.
